    Next Big Sound is becoming a valuable tool for musicians like myself.

    I've seen my online ratings go up as I learn more and more about what works and what doesn't work online!

    You've also turned me onto services I didn't really use like Vimeo and a couple of others like Ourstage etc. I joined the acoustic contest and have made new friends and shared my music with new people who might not have heard it yet.

    I'm an artist who is seeing the necessity and value in promotion, marketing, social networking and tracking results with stats etc... I think artists sometimes have a hard time with promotion as though it's a bad word.

    I've been wrestling with it myself for a while and find that some artists avoid it as though it's selling out or whatever term we believe...but think about it... people appreciate moving, heart felt, music right? Radio isn't always giving that stuff out.

    They also appreciate when your easy to find rather than being in some basement locked up writing songs. Who's going to find you in a world of a billion practice rooms, bedrooms and small bars? When was the last time you went into some strangers basement to find good music?

    This online stuff is just like learning a new instrument...it takes time to get great at it.

    I'm going to be starting some posts about this on my site, focusing on what a long time artist might encounter as we try to negotiate the new technologies.

    I'll be sure to mention what I've learned and and how I'm using this service to grow the reach of my music!
